At the moment, each of the Free Cities, perhaps bar Volantis, are ludicrously weak from what I've experienced, owing to their dearth of towns, castles and villages. People aren't confined simply to small enclaves around the Free Cities, with nothing but deserted and barren wasteland in between.Ĭanon aside, I think that adding more settlements would help to add greater gameplay balance, and also make it viable to choose to base yourself in Essos.
Essos is not economically weaker, less populous or less developed than Westeros is in the canon - if anything, the exact opposite is true. This means the continent, though large, is mostly empty in a way that just doesn't make any sense. The Free Cities each have far fewer towns, castles and villages than do any of kingdoms of Westeros. While I understand that you want to adhere to the lore, it seems to me that by not 'filling in the blanks' as it were, you are actually undermining it in some ways. However, I still feel that Essos is far too empty, with huge distances between all of the settlements there.
I understand a bit better why you created the map with the scale that it has, and that you wanted it to require planning and forethought. Okay, thank you very much for your reply.
